Description
Traced study for the composition of a vignette or initial letter illustration for Chapter XXVII, Book II ('The Young Wife') for 'Romola' (first published in parts in the 'Cornhill Magazine' July 1862 to August 1863). The tracing shows a female figure looking over a wall at the roofs and towers of various Florentine buildings and, although reversed, is similar to the finished illustration.
