Inscriptions: Inscribed lower left "(59.3)" in pencil. Inscribed lower right "Flaming June no. 13" in pen and ink. The squares are numbered horizontally from 1-6.

Interpretation

This tracing is slightly more detailed than another tracing for the same figure, also at the Royal Academy (reference number 04/721) and is probably later.

Description

Traced study for the composition of the painting 'Flaming June' (c.1895, Museo de Arte Ponce, Puerto Rico). The drawing is squared up. 

Provenance

Bequeathed by the artist to his sisters, Mrs. Augusta Matthews (nTe Augusta Neunburg Leighton, 1835-1919) and Mrs. Alexandra Orr (nTe Alexandra Leighton, 1828-1903); presented to the Royal Academy of Arts, London by Matthews and Orr in 1896
