Interpretation

According to the label on the mount these are preparatory drawings for the painting 'Gehazi Dismissed by the Prophet Elisha' (1858) which is now untraced.

Description

Three studies for 'Gehazi Dismissed by the Prophet Elisha' (1858, untraced). The drawing on the left shows the leg of a male figure in motion. On the right, are two studies of hands. 

Provenance

Bequeathed by the artist to his sisters, Mrs. Augusta Matthews (nTe Augusta Neunburg Leighton, 1835-1919) and Mrs. Alexandra Orr (nTe Alexandra Leighton, 1828-1903); presented to the Royal Academy of Arts, London by Matthews and Orr in 1896
