Description

Full-length nude study for the male figure with head bowed, to the left of the painting 'The Reconciliation of the Montagues and Capulets...' (The Reconciliation of the Montagues and Capulates...' (c.1853-55, private collection). Centre of sheet: study of the left hand of the same figure. Centre right of sheet: faint full-length study of a seated male nude. 

Provenance

Bequeathed by the artist to his sisters, Mrs. Augusta Matthews (nTe Augusta Neunburg Leighton, 1835-1919) and Mrs. Alexandra Orr (nTe Alexandra Leighton, 1828-1903); presented to the Royal Academy of Arts, London by Matthews and Orr in 1896
