Description

Drapery study for the curtain and the fabric draped around the female figure in the painting 'The Last Watch of Hero' (c.1887, Manchester Art Gallery). The figure is roughly sketched in, with a few lines in white chalk indicating the folds of the drapery of her dress, which is not shown. To the lower right, the decoration at the bottom of the curtain has also been sketched in. 

Provenance

Presented to the City Art Gallery, Manchester (now Manchester Art Gallery) by the artist, in 1887.
