Interpretation

This study was made early in Leighton's career, during a class in life-drawing. The model is probably the same person depicted in another drawing held at the Royal Academy (reference number 04/483).

Full-length nude study of a standing male figure with arms folded. The figure has a beard and a moustache 

Provenance

Bequeathed by the artist to his sisters, Mrs. Augusta Matthews (nTe Augusta Neunburg Leighton, 1835-1919) and Mrs. Alexandra Orr (nTe Alexandra Leighton, 1828-1903); presented to the Royal Academy of Arts, London by Matthews and Orr in 1896
