Description

Full-length nude study of a reclining male figure, in profile, facing to the left. The right elbow rests on a low plinth behind him and supports the weight of the upper body, which leans back. The left forearm rests along the left thigh. The left leg is extended and the right ankle is tucked under the left leg. The model has a moustache.

Provenance

Bequeathed by the artist to his sisters, Mrs. Augusta Matthews (nTe Augusta Neunburg Leighton, 1835-1919) and Mrs. Alexandra Orr (nTe Alexandra Leighton, 1828-1903); presented to the Royal Academy of Arts, London by Matthews and Orr in 1896
