Description

Left of sheet: full-length study for the female figure holding a pitcher, to the far left of the painting 'Captive Andromache' (c.1888, Manchester Art Gallery). The drapery is similar, but not identical to that in the final painting. Upper right of sheet: full-length study of a standing female figure, facing to the right. The right hand rests on the right hip, the left hand rests on a surface at hip height. The figure stands with their weight on the right leg and is in classical dress. A pitcher rests on the ground, just to the left of the figure. Lower right of sheet: full-length study for the female figure holding a pitcher, to the far left of the painting 'Captive Andromache' (c.1888, Manchester Art Gallery'. This study is very similar to the study to the left of the sheet, although it is smaller and the figure wears a simpler dress.
