Description
Left of sheet: full-length nude study of a standing male figure for the painting 'Eastern Slinger...' (c.1875, untraced). The figure's hands are raised to head height and he pulls a sling between the hands. Left centre of sheet: full-length nude study of a male figure with the left hand raised to hip height and right arm raised over the head pulling a sling between the hands. Right centre of sheet: full-length nude study of a standing male figure in the same position as the first figure but leaning forward on the right foot. Left of sheet: full-length nude study of a standing male figure in the same position as the second figure but viewed from the opposite side.

Bequeathed by the artist to his sisters, Mrs. Augusta Matthews (nTe Augusta Neunburg Leighton, 1835-1919) and Mrs. Alexandra Orr (nTe Alexandra Leighton, 1828-1903); purchased by the Fine Art Society (Fine Art Society reference number H59), originally priced at ú2:2:0; one of 55 drawings purchased by the Victoria and Albert Museum from the Fine Art Society for a total of ú135:18:0 (including a 10% discount) in 1896
