Description

Left of sheet: full-length study for the standing female figure immediately to the right of Andromache in the painting 'Captive Andromache', (c.1888, Manchester Art Gallery). The drawing is very similar in pose to the painting, although the figure is holding a different type of pitcher. Centre left of sheet: full-length study for the standing female figure immediately to the left of Andromache in the painting 'Captive Andromache'. The figure's face is turned towards the viewer, whereas in the painting her head is seen in profile, facing to the right. Also, she is holding a different shape of pitcher. Centre right of sheet: full-length study for the standing female figure dressed in brown, to the right of Andromache. Right of sheet: full-length study for the group of two standing female figures, immediately to the right of the figure of Andromache.
