Interpretation

This sketchbook may have used throughout 1857, as there are studies for the painting 'Samson and Delilah' (c.1858, untraced) on p.1v.

Description

Includes the following studies: f.1r - sketches of women's head and a standing male figure; f.1v - sketch of a nude male figure for 'Samson;' f. 2r - notes and a very faint compositional sketch; f.2v - view of the Papal Palace at Avignon; f.3r - blank; etc.
