Inscriptions include: "delight in emphasized concert and harmony of many parts & breadth produced by repetition... analogy to a chorus of many voices - order and richness - breath and sky studded with stars." (Probably refers the 'The Daphnephoria');
Interpretation
Refering to the collection at Hamilton Palace, the Ormonds note: "Leighton knew the collection well, making extensive notes on it [in this book] for the winter exhibitions". They also suggest that studies in this book are in preparation for the paintings 'The Daphnephoria' (c.1874-76, Lady Lever Art Gallery, Port Sunlight) and Captive Andromache (c.1888, City Art Gallery, Manchester).
