Description

Full-length seated female figure, turned to the left. The figure is seated on a stone step and leaning on an a stone wall. The head is turned to face the viewer. The legs are raised up towards the chest. The figure is hidden under drapery including the arms and the top of the head, but a some hair is revealed. The foreground shows a seated cat, turned away from the viewer. The background shows two butterflies and some foliage to the right of the canvas.

Collection of W G Herbert; purchased by George Holt in 1872 or 1875 (bill with indistinct date); bequeathed to Sudley House, Liverpool by Emma Holt in 1944
