Three-quarter length view of seated female figure, in profile, turned to the left. The head faces the viewer, the left arm hangs over the back rest of a chair, the right hand hold the back rest of the chair. The figure is in classical dress.
Bequeathed by the artist to his sisters, Mrs. Augusta Matthews (nTe Augusta Neunburg Leighton, 1835-1919) and Mrs. Alexandra Orr (nTe Alexandra Leighton, 1828-1903); by whom sold through Christie's in 1896 (lot 116); collection of John Musker; by descent to Sir John Musker; sold by Musker through Sotheby's, London (auctioneers) on 22 February 1972 (lot 117); purchased by J.
