Young carers

A young carer is a child or young person who provides care, assistance or support to a parent, sibling or other family member. This might be helping someone wash, dress, go to the toilet and making their meals. It might be running errands for them, like food shopping and picking up prescriptions. It might also be giving them medicine and taking them to medical appointments.

The responsibility of looking after someone in their home sometimes makes it difficult for children and young people to do things like get to school, concentrate on school work, see friends, and do enjoyable activities.
