Modern Slavery

Modern slavery is closer than you think.

Slavery is not an issue confined to history or an issue that only exists in certain countries - it is something that is still happening today. It is a global problem and the UK is no exception. It’s a growing issue, affecting men, women and children.

Child employment

It is important that professionals understand the rules around child employment.

Children under the age of 13 are not allowed to have a job. After their 13th birthday a child may have a job. It must be part-time and outside school hours. There are limitations on the type of work a child can do and how much time they can spend working. If they have a job, they must get a work permit from the council.
