Description | A transcript of the letter can be found below:
Dear Edward [L'Anson] According to Mrs L'Anson's instructions I send by my servant the attempt I have made to paint poor Lavinia's portrait. I must once again remind you that never saw her and was from the first more than doubtful of success. You will be indulgent. I send today because it is the only day you are likely to be at home and I am anxious to hear how the picture strikes you. I start on Tuesday morning at 8 o'clock. Should my messenger not find you a line to Madrid poste restante would find me. I shall be there Friday and Saturday. In haste Yours very sincerely Fred Leighton
