DescriptionDear Hodgson
I am sure it is superfluous to tell you that nothing but overwhelming stress of work and business prevented me from answering your kind letter when I got it. I communicated at once with Mrs Mason who has written to her lawyer brother in law (who lives in Birmingham) about proving the will.
I find to my great disappointment - that the £100 per annum she gets from her mother and on which we have calculated in her income may be withdrawn any day - the old lady being very eccentric and close - - Mrs M. is therefore anxious to do the utmost with her little home - she spoke about mortgages at 5% of which she hears from her brother in law - are mortgages safe? does our will allow them? I send you Wells' letter that you may see what he says about trusteeship etc - .
I am so glad to think that our little friend, at least, may go into the line of which you told me.
Believe me dear Hodgson
Yours sincerely
Fred Leighton
P.S. Don't forget that tomorrow, Friday, is my private view
