Description | Dear Signor On rereading your letter I find that, in the confusion of a brain muddled by much work at this moment, I have made an idiotic blunder. I now see that I was first to tell you what we wanted to have to represent you & that then you were to put pressure on 'the parties' ; fortunately I am still in time if you will kindly pen your most eloquent epistles at once. The pictures we are bent on are as follows. 1 The Spirit of Xtianity 2 Hope S.Kensington 3 Small Life and Love 4 Rachel Your studio 5 Tennyson (This is the picture just bought) 6 The P.R.A. in robes 7 Browning 8 Carlyle Nottingham? Please put the screw on at S[outh] K[ensington]. That is where the shoe will pinch - and write also to Nottingham. We are all delighted to hear of your greatly improved health, and prospects (audi Bond) of being the better for this bad bout - hooray! I should anyhow have scribbled this line (brief because I have a flood of letters before) - to say that the pastel, which I much like, has arrived in safety & is now with Saffron 'Davis' at B[urlington] House. We are going to have a very good exhibition, tho' of course in these hard times portrait will be a little unduly prominent. The production seems every year to increase; in spite of the now added New Gallery we had 700 or 800 more works put in than last year. [Croaken?] said a year or two ago that we could not keep up a good watercolour room with so much competition - well we had a beautiful show this year in that particular line! - but time is running out - give my love to Mrs Signora & believe me yours always affec FL Emma tells me she gives you all my news |
