Dear Mrs Mary
It was very kind, & like you to write me a little line about Signor & I sincerely rejoice to hear a better account of him tho' I am very much concerned to learn that he has had so distressing a week since I saw him last. Tell him with my love that his right ear ought to have tingled this evening as an old friend of his was talking to me about him, & if you add that it was Lady Lothian he will conjecture that the conversation was not viterperative on her side. I have also chanced on Lady Brownlow to my great satisfaction. I have been, or rather am, taking a short driving tour thro' a country (north & west Sutherlandshire) that has amazed me by its varied beauty. I have been for 3 days, at least, favored by splendid weather.
Yours always affec'ly
Fred Leighton
P.S. The S.L. Gallery business is disastrous! Little Rossiter is indomitable.
