DescriptionMany thanks both to you & to Mary for your very kind notes & wishes which I warmly reciprocate. I am delighted to get so good an account of you & to hear that you are at work. That is always the best sign. I don't think that Mrs Grundy will have much to say about Eve, certainly within our walls where a healthier tone prevails.
It is a pity that the Queen has sent for S. Angell but there is this to be said that she has a whole gallery of portraits by him of her family & friends & it is natural that she should entrust to him this addition to a regular 'set'. And you know since the P[rince] Consort's death everything German has a sort of sanctity in her eyes.
Bar the hideous week we had a short time ago the winter has, so far, been exceptionally good for working. Whether the work, here, is exceptionally good is another question. I do what I can - t'aint much.
Yours affec
