Accorrding to your Excellency's comman, Dr Frank has already fixed me at the Channel of Peter the Great, to which place of Kronstadt I must call every morning at seven o'clock to view the sick people; but as the Head Surgeon is likewise to be at the same hours within the Hospital, and remain there till one o'clock. so in doing one of my dutioes, I should certainly become the subject of neglecting the others, and hurt my reputation. therefore I can't take this upon myself; yet looking upon it as a great marks of your excellency's kindness and good disposition to me, I should be shamed of being so mute, as not to return my most hearty thanks for an opportunity you are pleased to give me, to enlarge my fortune; while flattering myself with the only hopes of excuse, I make bold to beg humbly your excellency would kindly permit me to exchange the above place for that, at the Machine we have in Kronstadt to the restore the drowned people to their lives, as it will suit me more, than Mr Schtofert, and such cafes belong for the most part to province of Surgery. being now and even with ther profoundest respect to an protector, I remain
