Description | The head of Sir Frederic Leighton (1830-1896) is attached to the body of a large butterfly; he has a sword at his side, wears a medallion and drawings of a Greek female figure playing the lyre and a child’s face in a rose are depicted in one of the wings. Other Royal Academicians are represented in the same manner, fluttering around the larger, central figure of Leighton. Four knives stand at the bottom of the composition, parallel with the stem of an orchid. |
