DescriptionArtist's proof engraving on paper. Three gentlemen stand in a line in front of an old building; they each wear a sandwich board with the printed title ‘INIQUITOUS BUDGET’ and a handwritten phrase beneath. The gentleman on the left wears a crown, smokes a cigarette, carries a long umbrella and has his face in profile looking across at the others; his board says ‘Mulching the Middle Classes’. The central figure with a cigar, top hat and umbrella states ‘Penalising the poor' whilst the final figure, smoking a pipe, is in working dress and wears a board with the message ‘Robbing the Rich’.
