Description | John Bull wearing a dressing gown, sleeps in an armchair with his dog beneath him and a newspaper on the side table. Above him are dream-like images representing various political problems; a spectral figure is emblazoned with ‘VENEZUELA’ whilst there are also national figures representing ‘CRETE’, ‘GERMANY’, ‘BRAZIL’ and ‘EGYPT’. The Muse of ‘JUSTICE’ holds scales that balance ‘LABOUR’ with ‘CAPITAL’ and the phrases ‘TRIPLE ALLIANCE’ and ‘HOME RULE’ fill in gaps among other little drawings. |
