Description | Cover for the book ‘Our Holiday in the Scottish Highlands’ by Arthur À Beckett and Linley Sambourne; ‘OUR’ being made up of antlers, a fish and a branch whilst the ‘H’ is a tall rock formation with the rest of the word spelt in musical notes. ‘In the’ is spelt in a Gaelic type and the ‘S’ is a thistle branch, the rest of Scottish being rocks and chopped tree trunks. ‘HIGHLANDS’ is placed in a decorative box alluding to manuscripts. On the left of the writing is a female figure in traditional Scottish dress playing the bagpipes. With her is a Scottie dog, a plate of herring and a scroll of ‘Auld Lang Syne’ along with a bottle of whisky and glass. The still water of a lock and mountains create a backdrop. |
