DescriptionArtist's proof engraving on paper. Depicts Britannia with trident, standing at a cliff edge with seagulls, a ship and a lighthouse in the background. At her feet are two poor old women and three infants with the inscriptions ‘MERCHANDISE’, ‘INDUSTRY’ and ‘LABOUR AGE INFANCY’. At the top of the competition there is a cluster of five stars in the shape of the holy cross and a larger star with the inscription of ‘HEAVENS. LIGHT. OUR. GUIDE’ in a circle around it. A silver coloured ink has been used.
