Description | Former Prime Minister, William Gladstone (1809-1898) depicted as a aristocrat facing the guillotine during the French Revolution. The guillotine blade is lettered 'CLOSURE' and behind the guillotine 'PROPERTY OF THE TORY LIBERAL [crossed out] GOVERNMENT'. On the reverse of the drawing board is affixed a printed copy of the cartoon as it appeared in Punch. |
