DescriptionA design for a stained glass window depicting the trials and triumphs of the Chief Secretary for Ireland, Augustine Birrell (1850-1933). The central panel depicts Birrell in monk's robes holding a model of University College Dublin labelled 'IRISH UNIVERSITY', at his feet two small figures one is the leader of the Conservative party Arthur Balfour (1848-1930) the other is the Irish politician John Dillon (1851-1927). In the right pane Birrell tumbles out of a ship which bears the flag 'IRISH COUNCILS BILL'. In the left hand pane Birrell runs away from a dragon that holds a sack inscribed 'EDUCATION BILL 1906'.
