DescriptionDepicts a standing artist's lay figure lettered 'BUDGET' with a bag of money taped to its stomach being disrobed by the Chancellor the Exchequer Charles Ritchie (1838-1906) before the judges that includes the Liberal politician William Vernon Harcourt (1827-1904), the Conservative politicians Michael Hicks Beach (1837-1916) and George Goschen (1831-1907). The scene is based on the painting 'Phryne revealed before the Areopagus' by Jean-Léon Gérôme (1824-1904). Mount and framed within wood, underglaze.
