My dear Leighton
I am shocked to find that a letter of yours dated the 16th of last month has remained unanswered. Let me now thank you very much both in the Duchess's name as well as my own for your kind sympathy on the death of Pri[ncess] Frederick Charles. It has been a heavy blow to her just on her return home and has cast a sad gloom over the joy of her meeting with her family.
