Description | The correspondence in this series, centres around Frederic Leighton's work as President of the Royal Academy. A theme throughout the letters is acceptance or otherwise of private views, invitations for dinners and particular paintings. Some letters due to the nature of series have been dictated or written on behalf of another,a higher authority. Although it is important to note that these letters from members of the British and other European royal families, show a kindness and warmth for Leighton and his work. Whilst most letters are addressed to Leighton himself, there are some instances of the letter concerning him even if the original recipient was another person within the art world. |
