Description | 17 Dec 1887 Dear Mr Grattan Pray excuse my long delay in answering you. I have been overwhelmingly busy of late. I sorely fear that very little can be done in the matter of your forthcoming Exhibition in Antwerp in [18]88. The fact is that three Exhibs. are already in the field: the great centenary Exhibition of Melbourne for which every effort is being made here - ( the colonies are making giant strides and are beginning to offer a great field for Brit. Art) - the Exhibition at Glasgow in which Art is being made a very prominent feature - and a Great Exhibition in Munich. Add to this that English painters here only very recently exhibited in Antwerp and I have grave doubt whether it will be possible to obtain anything of importance on this occasion. Believe me In haste Yours very truly Fred Leighton
