Description | Thursday Dear Hodgson Your letter about poor George's widow is characteristic of your warm & generous nature and will I am sure touch her very much. - I hope to hold at Christies' sometime in February a sale of my poor friends' [sic] exquisite sketches and studies and as the produce of this sale will form an important part of the future means of subsistence of his wife and five children I shall remember your kindness and ask you both to contribute yourself and if possible to advise your friends to aid in the result by bidding for some of his works. Meanwhile that the public may the better learn what a genius is lost to us the Burlington Club are going to hold an Exhibition of his sold works if we can get them, as I hope, from the owners; - I am well assured that you will readily contribute to that Exhibition by the loan of the 2 (?) paintings of his you possess. - Accept again on behalf of Mrs Mason my sincere thanks for your letter & believe me dear Hodgson Yours Ever truly Fred Leighton |
