Description | Tuesday Dear Hodgson the pots came last night and are of noble bulk and shape - many thanks for your kind thought. - I wish I had no more to say; but I have that to say which is not pleasant: you know that since my return to England in the autumn I have worked steadily and daily at your Daphnephoria - I am doing so now and shall do so unremittingly till sending in time; - nevertheless the more than fear, the almost certainty increases on me daily that I cannot complete it worthily and fully in the time by whatever effort. - It is a great disappointment to me and will be a great inconvenience to you, for altho' you will have your picture three months earlier than you would I shall not be able to refrain from asking you to exhibit it in [18]77 - which will be a great nuisance to you I fear. - It so happens that I have to leave work this year on the 27th March being on Council and losing the usual respite given to members. - I shall get off duty by the end of April and will then at once give the ensuing week's or fortnight's work. Don't be vexed with me - next time you come & see the labour you won't wonder. Yours always sincerely Fred Leighton |
