Description | The Athenaeum Club, Pall Mall [1868] Dear Kingsley I owe you every sort of apology for not having long ago thanked you for the note through which you kindly made me acquainted with your friends Mr and Mrs Martineau - but you will know how to be indulgent with a very busy man who has but little leisure for writing. I do not know whether you have heard from the Martineaus that I am painting his portrait. I am indeed a good deal pressed for time but I was loth to say 'no' to anyone so warmly spoken of by you. My sitter appears to me a most amiable and cultivated man and I can fully understand your high regard for him. Of Mrs Martineau I have seen less but she also appears to be a most agreeable person. I hear with great pleasure from them that you are now very much better than you have been and are recovering strength and health. If you come up to town and I have an idle moment I hope you will let me see you, meanwhile Believe me Very sincerely yours Fred Leighton
