Description | 26th [April 1878] Dear Owen I received day the telegram demanding my presence at the Princes' Pavilion at 2 on the 8th. I shall be there at the appointed time. Meanwhile I write a line on another matter. I have obtained permission from the Prince to withdraw my own works from competition. It would have been intolerable to me even to risk being a party to giving myself a medal however small. You will soon I suppose be putting 'hors concours' on these works which are excluded by our understanding with the French Commission; works, namely, antecedent to the date fixed - pray at the same time fix the mythic words on my performance also. Am I as R[oyal] Com[missione]r entitled to Birdwood's book? If so will you cause one to be sent to me? Sincerely yours Fred Leighton PS How does England show all round - really I mean?
