Dear Mr Pincher
When I added my name to the [Irving] Banquet Committee I had hoped to attend, as your know, and would have gladly responded to the toast to which the Committee honour me by wishing to attach my name. Unfortunately I am obliged in obendience to a categorical letter received from my doctor a few days ago to renounce for at least a month, which means for the last of the season, all and every convivial dining or feasting. he says that my health, which has for some little time not been quite satisfactory 'demands it'. Pray therefore make to the Commitee my apologies for not obliging them and express to them my real regret that I shall be absent on the 4th from so interesting a dinner.
