Description | 6 March 1893 2 Holland Park Road, Kensington Dear Mr Quilter I have been prevented by stress of various occupations from answering your two letters sooner; I shall be happy to show you my pictures either on Sunday next or, yet better, on the Sunday following - when they will be if not quite finished sufficiently near completion for purposes of criticism - between 3 and 5 o'clock. I have for many years constantly declined to sell sketches or drawings, but shall be happy to lend you for reproduction the original study (from life) of one of my pictures. As regards your second questions the matter stands thus: when, last year, I opened and headed the double subscription I received at once a few hundred pounds to[w]ards the Completion Fund. Since that period however I have turned my energies exclusively to the Memorial Fund which has for some months past become adequate to the work in hand. It seemed to me better to go to the public for the second operation when the print would be completed revealing on the one hand the magnificence of the monument and on the other its incompleteness; no estimate of a definite character has yet been attempted. Meanwhile I have further promises on which to draw when the time comes and indeed in one instance the suggestion of something very comprehensive in the way of a contribution. I shall not fail to bear in mind your very liberal offer. I see on looking thro' your letter again that you fix a date for the delivery of the drawing to be reproduced in the 'Lug? Ill. Mag'. I add therefore that it is at your disposal when you require it. In haste Yours faithfully Fred Leighton
