My apology for not having written to you is contained in the address of this note - cruising about in the Mediterranean seems to preclude one from attending to ones epistolary duties - but I will not delay any longer sending you a line to congratulate you on your new honours and say how truly pleased I was on hearing that one of my oldest friends has received this well deserved tribute to his talent.
