Description | [1875] Dear Schlessinger I should always be charmed to oblige you personally, but your friend does not seem to know that pictures are taken or the reverse at R.A., when not sent by the Queen, only by vote of a majority and on the merit of the work without knowledge of the name of the artist. Meanwhile I believe that a picture of Mr Bradford's has been taken this year by command of Her Majesty (thro' the D[uke] of Edinburgh) - pictures sent by the Queen are entered in the Catalogue as above ('by command') so that the R.A. may not be implicated in their selection if the work is not up to the mark. In haste Very sincerely yours Fred Leighton
