Description | Arabic monogram with crown Mr dear Leighton The coachman (a Cornishman, both timid and ignorant about London Januaries) sent to say he didn't like going out this evening; so I took a cab. Bur the horse brokw down chemin faisant [along the way], and I could not find another to hand; so that, ebing on my own side of Oxford Street, and having no prospect of getting to yu, I just telegraphed in the hopes of note keeping you waiting and plodded my way homewards, to my infinite regret and disappointment. I sincerely hope I shall not have put you to any inconvenience. It is most unfortunate, as I had so thoroughly set my heart on exceptional enjoyent at your party - and the worst of it is that exactly the same thing happened to me one evening last January when I was homeward bound, and was brought to a stanstill in the same way. Very sincerely yours Strangford |
