DescriptionDear Signor
Many thanks for your very kind letter which I should have answered sooner but for absolute want of time. Alas! I fear that getting away to Brighton to see you - much as I should like it, is not a thing to be hoped for. I am delighted to hear that you have found such an admirable place for work and that you are in such good spirits about the results, - that, my dear Signor, is a distinct sign of better health also - giddiness notwithstanding. I look forward vastly to what you will bring back. Of course you would not come to the election, but there were I grieve to say a considerable number of other abstensions - some inevitable & some not, which have resulted in a choice which (strictly entre nous) is simply deplorable & would have been avoided had 5 members been present who did not turn up to hold the balance. If you have leisure or inclination I want you & Signora, (to whom pray give my love) to read my Liverpool address in Tuesday's 'Times' - it is given verbatim.
In hot haste
Always yours aff'ly
