Description | Sunday Dear Signor Mamy thanks for your notes. Your suggestion that you would like to give Joe your portrait is characteristic of your great generosity, but it deepens my dilemna and makes it almost hopeless, & I therefore earnestly hope you will abandon the idea. The committee meets on Wed'y again & I have no reason whatever to hope that any alternatives will turn up (there is no great violin on sale in the country but the one we failed to obtain) and by declining to sell your portrait you cut away (if that is what they decide they would like to do - I mean give him a portrait) the very ground from under our feet. I see no way out of it. Please therefore let me know (for definite statement on Committee) what 'the price' should be - and when the hat goes round to us all for the monies, subscribe with the rest. In hot haste Yours affec F Leighton P.S. I am grieved to hear that you are not well enought to get again to work. |
