Dear Signor
I got your wire this morning & now your note comes; very many thanks for your most generous offer to the Committee. This is what has happened today. I told you that we wanted to give J[oachim] a great fiddle & I mentioned why. Since our last meeting such a fiddle has turned up; a 'Strad' which belonged to [-] the father of modern Violinist. It is Lady [-] in view of the special object she consented to part with it; it costs £1000. Not out of the way Piatti tells us. We are pretty sure to exceed that sum in subscriptions - I hope considerably & then we shall be able to avail ourselves of your great liberality which the Com[mittee] duly appreciated. What weather!! ugh!
Yours affec
Fred Leighton
