Description | This work was executed in exchange for Frederic Lord Leighton's The Bath of Psyche, painted for the Hall of Panels in Alma-Tadema's studio at Grove End Road. The setting of the painting is the piano alcove in Tadema’s large aluminium-domed studio, with its golden step and Mexican onyx windows. It depicts one of Alma-Tadema's models, Miss Blanche Tueski, posing beside her pianoforte. She smells the fragrance of white roses which rest upon a red velvet carpet with deep gold embroidery. |
