Maker | Following Roy Sambourne's death in 1946, 18 Stafford Terrace, Kensington, passed to his sister Maud Messel, who encouraged her daughter Anne, Countess of Rosse, to use it as her London home. Inspired by the house, and the reaction of its visitors, Lady Rosse was instrumental in establishing the Victorian Society in 1958. The Society aimed to preserve Victorian and Edwardian architecture and to encourage research into the art and history of the period. |
