Description | Handwritten in ink on paper headed 'CITY UNIVERSITY CLUB, THREADNEEDLE STREET. E.C.'
'Friday .15th' and 'My Darling Maud, I had not meant to write to you any more, in the first place, because I kept hoping against hope that you would be back one day this week, & in the second place because I wanted you to write a letter which came from yourself & which was not in answer to one of mine. Well you have not done so & I do not know even now when you are coming home - / Your people don't seem to know either. I dined with your mother & Roy on Wednesday, & Roy went out so yr Mother and I had a long talk. I need hardly tell you what was the subject of our conversation. You will, & doubtless be able to guess that the weather was but little alluded to. She is very angry that you have stayed so long. It will be 8 weeks on Tuesday. I have been far from well all this week & have had a great worry besides, as it turns out quite uselessly - I mean that I need not have worried about what I did. It was a business matter & most foolish of me to let it disturb me. / Our dinner party went off very well last night. There is to be another next Thursday to which my mother, of her own account, suggested inviting yr people. I only hope that they will be able to come this time. If you would let me have a wire tomorrow addressed to me / c/o Hill, / Keston, / Kent / telling me when you are coming I should be much obliged as I do not want to accept any engagements for the night of yr arrival & yet it is no use to refuse things for nothing - / I am going to stay with Mr Hill from tomorrow till Monday, which day will I trust see you in town - / Did you get my Aunt's note? / I must go back to work now so hoping to hear from you tomorrow - ./ I am your most loving / Lennie /
I am going to church on Sunday. I have not been since you have been away. I do miss you so fearfully & it has made me very unhappy that you have not written just because I did not write for 4 days. / You dear little thing I want to see you and talk things over because letter writing is most unsatisfactory -
