Title: Study of Male Head, Luxor
Date: 1868
Media: Pencil on white paper
Dimensions: 21.2 x 17.2 cm
Location: Leighton House Museum
Interpretation: The inscription on the lower edge of this drawing was written shortly after Leighton's death, probably by a clerk at the Fine Art Society. It reads "Study done in Algiers". However, the inscription above in Leighton's hand clearly indicates that this drawing was made at "Lougsor" (now called Luxor, the ancient town of Thebes) in Egypt, on 25th October, 1857, during his trip along the Nile. The first word of Leighton's inscription is now illegible, but may have been the name of the Egyptian man he drew
