Events Assistant
Join the museums team with our Events Assistant job opportunity.
Help us bring our historic museums to life – on your schedule
As an Events Assistant, you’ll be part of the friendly team that helps deliver unforgettable experiences at Leighton House and Sambourne House – two of the most unique museum venues in London in this casual role.
Working Style:
This is a casual position with a monthly rota provided in advance, giving you the opportunity to select the shifts that best suit your availability. Shifts typically run from 5pm to 11pm on evenings and weekends. While the role offers flexibility, we’re looking for reliable individuals who can commit to their chosen shifts. Whether you're working on the frontline or supporting behind the scenes, you'll be part of a dedicated team making a meaningful difference to residents' lives.
What you’ll be doing:
Every event is different, but your role will always be hands-on, people-focused and key to the experience.
You’ll arrive early to help set up – making sure spaces are clean, safe and ready to welcome guests. You’ll assist caterers and contractors, support with health and safety checks, and be the go-to contact for anything on the night. You’ll greet guests at reception, provide a warm welcome and keep a close eye on visitor safety throughout the event.
Depending on the event, you might help monitor the galleries, guide guests through the space, support our public programme (like film screenings or family workshops), or assist in the museum shop. You’ll also be trained to handle the unexpected – from minor technical hiccups to calmly dealing with alarms or safety issues.
Whatever the task, your calm approach, eye for detail and commitment to great customer service will make the difference between a good event and a great one.

What you’ll bring
You’ve got experience working events – ideally in a public venue or heritage space – and you enjoy being part of a team that works hard to deliver a brilliant experience.
You’re approachable, friendly and professional, with a real knack for putting people at ease. You’re confident working with the public, staying calm when plans change, and thinking on your feet when challenges arise.
You understand the importance of safety, accessibility and good communication – especially in evening and weekend settings – and you’re not fazed by being the person others look to for help and guidance.
You’re organised, detail-focused and happy to work independently or with others. Basic IT skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office 365 are a plus – and we’ll provide full training, including First Aid and Fire Warden certification, if needed.
Why join us
At RBKC, we’re all in – investing in our people, our communities and our future.
You’ll join a warm, supportive team that values your time, your input and your commitment. We’ll give you full induction training, ongoing support and opportunities to build your experience in events, visitor services and museum operations.
And the best bit? You choose when you work. Our monthly rota lets you sign up for the shifts that suit you, giving you the flexibility to fit this role around other work, study or caring commitments.
Plus, you’ll have the chance to work in two of London’s most beautiful and historic spaces – and be part of the cultural life of the borough in a truly meaningful way.
